1949
How did it start?
In 1949, the civil engineer Curt Lindquist in Norrköping, Sweden, had grown tired of rags that didn’t dry properly. Using a meat grinder, he pressed cellulose, cotton, and salt into a cloth that eventually met his expectations. The Swedish dishcloth was born.
Two manufacturers in the world of the Swedish dishcloth
A German manufacturer was granted a license from Sweden in the mid-1950s, and since then, there have been only two companies in the world producing the Swedish dishcloth. By looking at the back of the dishcloth, you can tell whether it was produced in Sweden or Germany. Diamonds on the back – Germany. Smooth back – Sweden. At TekoTryck, we work closely with both of these manufacturers.
From forest to soil
The dishcloth was invented in Sweden as early as 1949, since then it has formed part of an eco-friendly cycle. It all starts with wood waste from FSC-labelled forests, wish is converted into cellulose in the pulp factory. The voyage then continues into the dishcloth factory where the cellulose is transformed into viscose and mixed with cotton – and then gradually becomes a finished cloth. Once the cloth reaches the end of its service life, it makes its way to the compost, where it decomposes. The journey starts in the forest and ends in the soil. The circle is closed!
There is a dishcloth for every occasion
Swedish Dishcloths vs. Paper Rolls

Save the environment, energy, the clothes’ lifespan, as well as money, by wiping dirt with a Swedish dishcloth from outdoor clothes, instead of throwing them into a washing machine.
